Breath Retraining & Buteyko
Personalised breathing support to help you breathe more comfortably and efficiently, feel calmer, sleep better and support your overall wellbeing.
What Is Breath Retraining?
Breath retraining helps you develop a more functional breathing pattern for everyday life, rest, sleep and physical activity.
Using the Buteyko Method, we work towards breathing that is light, slow and deep, with an emphasis on comfortable nasal breathing. The aim is to help make efficient, functional breathing feel increasingly natural rather than something you have to consciously control.

Can Breath Retraining Help?
Breath retraining may be helpful if you experience:
- Breathing pattern dysfunction
- Asthma or respiratory symptoms
- Anxiety or feelings of breathlessness
- Snoring or disrupted sleep
- Poor sleep quality
- Stress and difficulty relaxing
- Reduced exercise tolerance
- Frequent mouth breathing
What Will We Work On?
Your sessions may include:
- Nasal breathing at rest, during sleep and activity
- Developing a lighter, slower and deeper breathing pattern
- Improving awareness of your everyday breathing habits
- Reducing unnecessary upper-chest breathing
- Improving breathing during movement and exercise
- Simple breathing exercises to practise between sessions
Why Nasal Breathing?
The nose is designed for breathing. Breathing through the nose helps to:
- Filter, warm and humidify the air you breathe
- Naturally slow and regulate airflow
- Support efficient use of the diaphragm
- Reduce unnecessary use of the muscles of the upper chest and neck
- Produce nitric oxide, which plays an important role in the respiratory and cardiovascular systems
Why Light, Slow & Deep?
Breathing efficiently isn’t about taking bigger breaths. The Buteyko Method encourages a lighter, slower breathing pattern while allowing the diaphragm to move freely.
This can help reduce over-breathing, improve tolerance to carbon dioxide and encourage a calmer, more efficient breathing pattern.

What to Expect From Your Session
Your first session gives us time to explore your current breathing patterns, discuss what you would like help with and introduce breathing practices tailored to you.
Keep the second paragraph as it is.
You’ll leave with practical techniques to practise at home and, where appropriate, recommendations for further sessions to help you gradually retrain your breathing.

For clients who would benefit from more structured support, I also offer a 4-session Breath Retraining package.
