TRE™  Tension, Trauma & Stress Releasing Exercises

A gentle, body-led practice to support nervous system regulation

What is TRE™ ?
TRE™  (Tension, Trauma & Stress Releasing Exercises) is a gentle, body-based practice developed by David Berceli, designed to help the body release deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma.

TRE™  uses a short sequence of simple exercises to activate the body’s natural tremor response, known as neurogenic tremors. These tremors are an innate reflex mechanism that helps the nervous system settle and return toward balance.

Rather than analysing or talking through past experiences, TRE™  works directly with the body. As the muscles begin to tremor, they naturally soften and release excess tension. For many people, this supports a sense of calm, grounding and increased ease in both body and mind.

A key part of TRE™  is learning self-regulation, how to start, slow, pause or stop the tremors so the process remains comfortable and contained. This means you stay in control and develop confidence in your body’s ability to regulate itself.

Is TRE™  right for me?
TRE™  can be supportive if you’re experiencing ongoing stress, tension, or a sense that your nervous system has been under prolonged strain.

People often explore TRE™  when they notice:
* held tension or tightness in the body
* difficulty relaxing or switching off
* stress that feels “stuck” rather than situational
* a wish to feel calmer, steadier, and more grounded in the body

TRE™  does not require you to talk about or relive past experiences. The process is body-led, and self-regulation is central, you’ll learn how to stay within a comfortable range and how to pause or stop when needed. If you’re curious, the simplest next step is to book a session or arrange a short call to explore whether TRE™  feels right for you.

How TRE® may support you
People explore TRE™  for a range of reasons. With regular practice, some people notice:

  • reduced stress and nervous system tension
  • feeling calmer and more settled in the body
  • improved ability to relax and switch off
  • greater emotional steadiness and resilience
  • support with persistent tension or stress-related discomfort
  • improved sleep, energy, and overall sense of ease

Everyone’s experience is individual, and changes may be subtle or gradual. TRE™  is not about forcing release, but about supporting the body’s natural ability to regulate itself over time.
